Case Study
Snowboard App
Snowboard App started life as a responsive website aimed at helping snowboarders improve their technique. Later, we would port this in-house content into an Android app, thereby increasing our user base.
Overview
Snowboard App is a news, tutorials and video app / website. The Responsive site was built into an Android app using the existing design, navigation and layout. Content on the website was therefore mirrored in the app – a cost and time-effective way to replicate content over both.
The site and app featured a selection of the best snowboarding tutorials and videos arranged by category, including specific trick lessons and tutorials for beginners, intermediates and experts. The app and website also featured updated news stories, reviews, features and snow / weather / conditions updates. Snowboard App was produced for Android devices.
Snowboard App site was an internal project produced by Deepbluemedia as a supplemental tuition service to iRide App. It was constructed in a similar format to the main iRide site to maintain brand identity and product cohesion.
Scope of work
Deepbluemedia was responsible for all aspects of the Snowboard App website and app design, development, launch and promotion. With our experienced team of designers and developers, we produced every aspect of the job internally, pulling on our extensive development, design and marketing experience.
Our remit included: logo design / producing a Fully Responsive property website / producing an Android app of the site / performing SEO and ASO / video production / social media promotion.

Responsive website
The Snowboard App website was produced in a Fully Responsive format, powered by a comprehensive CMS database.
The Snowboard App site was designed to resize comfortably for all devices – mobile, tablet, laptop or desktop. The layout works particularly on mobile, making it even easier to port the content over to the Android app.
Hybrid app dev
We spent considerable time and effort programming the Snowboard App website so that it could easily be ported into an Android app. Indeed, it could be argued the site actually worked better as an app than it did as a traditional website.
Snowboard App was released on both Android and Fire OS. It enjoyed considerable download success over both platforms while also serving as a useful side promotion for the more advanced iRide app.
Icon / logo design
The Snowboard App logo was deliberately styled on the iRide logo to maintain a common identity. This branding was subsequently carried over all social channels and also the main website. It was also used for the site Favicon and across Twitter, YouTube and Facebook accounts. The logo clearly references snowboarding and was also used for the app icon.
Web marketing / SEO
As with all our projects, we were extremely aware that the success of Snowboard App was very much dependent upon both the app and site being found in search engines and in the app stores. Consequently, we performed exhaustive Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) work on the site – while also working hard to make the app rank high in the stores.

Promo video
Statistics show that video is by far the most engaging media format on the web so we were keen to produce a promo video for both the Snowboard App website and app. This short video did a great job of generating downloads while also promoting the main online service.
launch edit
By its very nature, snowboarding is a dynamic sport, performed by a more youthful market than some of our other projects so we wanted to produce an engaging video that sparked interest in the service but that also promoted the idea of snowboarding. This short edit did a great job of both while also showing the key features of the app.
We used the video across Facebook, YouTube and Twitter as well as on the main site and on the app store download pages to help generate installs and promote Snowboard App brand to a wider audience.

UI screens
While Snowboard App started life as a responsive site, it looked and worked very different across the various screen sizes. In particular, the user experience was especially good on mobile devices.
